“Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.” (Exodus 3:6 KJV)
This is a familiar part of a familiar story. Where The Lord got Moses’ attention with the burning bush. He called out to him and Moses responded “Here am I” and The Lord instructed him “Take off your shoes this is holy ground.”
He goes on:
Moreover he said; which means “in addition to what has been said” He is speaking.
I am The God of thy father, this speaks to legacy, not just thy father as in your daddy, I am I am the God of your people.
the God of Abraham which speaks to his past. All Jews knew of father Abraham. This also confirmed Him as a God of faith, Abraham is the father of faith.
the God of Isaac which speaks to present time and that thing God has promised. Isaac was the catalyst for his father’s promise. The hope of his son was what birthed faith in Abraham and his greatest display of that faith was when he prepared to sacrifice his son because The Lord required it of him.
the God of Jacob speaks to the future, the manifestation of the promise. Jacob was the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. When God does what He’s promised to do in and through you. When He shows us great and mighty things. When we wrestle with Him and our destiny. Jacob represents the beginnings of a new man, a changed man.
When God wants to use you, He’ll get your attention. When He gets your attention, He’ll call you. When you answer, be prepared for instruction. Wherever we meet God is a holy place. Be it the backside of the desert or sitting in traffic, whenever He calls us and we answer, we’ve stepped on holy ground. Moreover, once God tells you where you are, He’ll confirm who He is. He is the God of our father, He is the author and the finisher of our faith. He is the God of our present day, able to do more than we could ask or think. He is the God of our future. Of our deliverance. Of moving forward and making all things new. I believe these are places on the continuum of life. After we’re called and we’ve given our Yes, offered ourselves for service, we must stay in communication with Him through prayer and the reading of His word. Either He’s speaking giving instruction, telling us where we are, reminding us who He is, what He’s done, what He’s doing, what He’s going to do. God is not going to waste time or words, He addressed Moses’ past, present and future in once sentence. We needed waste anymore time or words either. In 2015 we are to present ourselves for service, “Here Am I.”
